Malevo Stomps Into Action at the CCPA on Sun., February 25, 7:00 PM

CERRITOS, CA – The all-male troupe Malevo, which took America by storm in Season 11 of America's Got Talent, dances into the spotlight at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Sunday, February 25, 7:00 PM. Tickets for this Director’s Pick show start at $38.

MALEVO specializes in Malambo, a traditional Argentine Folk dance, merging it with urban percussion and other dance styles. Named an official Cultural Ambassador to the National Identity of Argentina, the percussive dance group from Argentina has appeared with Latin Pop star Ricky Martin and Cirque du Soleil.

Dating back to the 16th Century, Malambo isn't accompanied by singing or lyrics. Created by director-choreographer-dancer Matías Jaime, Malevo (the “South American Sensation”) re-envisioned Malambo, elevating the traditional Argentinian folkloric dance (performed originally by Gauchos of the Pampas region) into a modern, avant-garde vision by fusing its classic technique with other styles – such as Flamenco – and incorporating live percussion. Set to a pulsating rhythm of drums, the choreography combines the use of boleadoras (a leather and stone hunting tool used by Gauchos) with fast leg movements, energetic zapateados (stomping), and quick cepillados (“brushing”/“scrubbing”). This dynamic ensemble has created a performance that not only pushes the Malambo style beyond its limits, but gives audiences an extraordinary visual and sensory experience unlike any other.

The group has performed to great acclaim across the globe, including in Las Vegas, New York, Dubai, Paris, Qatar, Saint Petersburg, Canada, London, and Moscow.
