Hip Hop Nutcracker Kicks Off Holiday Lineup at the CCPA on Fri., November 10, 8:00 PM

CERRITOS, CA – Imagine a mash-up of contemporary Hip Hop dance and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s timeless music! Celebrating its 10th anniversary, HIP HOP NUTCRACKER brings the holidays and “a generous dose of contemporary spirit sure to heat up even the most restless and wintry of souls,” according to The New York Times. Mark your calendar for this show at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Friday, November 10, 8:00 PM. Ticket prices start at $44.

A holiday treat for the whole family, Hip Hop Nutcracker reimagines Tchaikovsky’s 130-year-old ballet as a holiday dance spectacle. Elle magazine proclaimed the production – featuring all-star dancers, a deejay, an electric violinist, and an opening set by one of Hip Hop’s founding fathers, MC Kurtis Blow – as “a truly one-of-a-kind experience, filled with high-powered choreography and a very modern storyline.”

Created in 2013 by Emmy-winning director-choreographer Jennifer Weber and writer Mike Fitelson, Hip Hop Nutcracker pays homage to the original (George) Balanchine ballet, retold through the modern, self-expressive gaze of Hip Hop culture. The production has evolved into a masterpiece due to the creators’ never-ending commitment to enhancing the production, and dancers who continue to raise the bar each year. Hip Hop Nutcracker has been performed more than 200 times in 70 cities.

Executive produced by three-time Tony winner Eva Price, Hip Hop Nutcracker embodies the classic Nutcracker story, in which Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets, and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Innovative digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of author E.T.A. Hoffmann’s beloved story from traditional 19th-century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of contemporary New York City. It’s a “crowd-pleasing and uplifting saga, just in time for the holiday season,” raved BroadwayWorld.com.
