CCPA Welcomes Chubby Checker and Gary Lewis and The Playboys on Sat., April 13, 8:00 PM

CERRITOS, CA – Catch two of music’s hottest acts in action! The “King of the Twist” Chubby Checker rocks the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) with Gary Lewis and The Playboys opening the show on Saturday, April 13, 8:00 PM. Tickets start at $49.

CHUBBY CHECKER has kept generations of audiences twisting with Billboard-charting hits. The Grammy winner ignited the international Twist craze with Twistin’ the Night Away and his signature song, The Twist, which catapulted to No. One in 1960 and again in 1962. The Twist was named the No. One song of all time for the Billboard Hot 100 music chart. Chubby Checker scored a “Best Rock & Roll Recording” Grammy for the catchy Let’s Twist Again.

The hits kept coming – the No. One Pony Time, Knock Down the Walls, The Fly, The Hucklebuck, Twist Around the Clock, Slow Twistin’, Dancin’ Party, Popeye the Hitchhiker, The Limbo Rock, Birdland, Twist It Up, and Loddy Lo. In 2007, Chubby Checker dominated the No. One spot again with Knock Down the Walls, which ruled Billboard’s dance chart.

GARY LEWIS AND THE PLAYBOYS racked up a slew of Top 10 songs on the Billboard charts, including This Diamond Ring, Count Me In, Save Your Heart for Me, and Everybody Loves a Clown. Lewis was Cash Box Magazine’s “Male Vocalist of the Year,” winning the honor over fellow nominees Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. Lewis was a mainstay on the popular television shows of the era, including American Bandstand, Hullabaloo, The Tonight Show, and The Ed Sullivan Show.
