CCPA Welcomes Back Merry-Achi Christmas Sol de México de José Hernández, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, and DanzArts Sabor México Dance Company on Sat., December 2, 7:00 PM and Sun., December 3, 2:00 PM

CERRITOS, CA – The festive MERRY-ACHI CHRISTMAS celebration returns to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) with Sol de México de José Hernández, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, and DanzArts Sabor México Dance Company. The cultural holiday celebration brings to the stage a colorful and traditional Mexican holiday celebration full of seasonal songs, dance, and festive merriment at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 2 and 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 3. Tickets start from $35.

Formed in 1981, SOL DE MÉXICO DE JOSÉ HERNÁNDEZ is a dynamic team of 14 musicians and vocalists who personify the spirit of Mexico and its people. The group’s 25 Anniversario José Hernández y Su Mariachi Sol de México was nominated for a “Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album” Latin Grammy, making the band the first Mariachi ensemble to earn the nod. The band’s string of successful CDs includes New York, New York; Are You Lonesome Tonight; Acapulco Girls; and Mi Mariachi. Sol de México has performed with music greats José Feliciano, Willie Nelson, and The Beach Boys. The group worked on Hollywood soundtracks for Sea Biscuit, The Old Gringo, and Don Juan de Marco.

Joining Sol de México on the stage is the all-female Mariachi group MARIACHI REYNA DE LOS ANGELES. Staying true to its music and creative spirit, the ensemble mixes recognized masterpieces of Mariachi with popular cover tunes. The troupe has delighted fans with its spirit and energy reflective of Mexico’s vibrant musical heritage.

Founded by acclaimed artistic director-choreographer Patricia Astorga-Casey, the theater-dance company DANZARTS SABOR MÉXICO DANCE COMPANY strives to preserve Mexico’s and Spain’s heritage by raising cultural awareness and giving back to the community through dance. The company, which specializes in Ballet, Flamenco, and Ballet Folklorico, was chosen from more than 300 candidates to work with the San Diego Symphony.
