ATMA Ensemble Lights Up the CCPA on Sun., March 24, 3:00 PM

CERRITOS, CA – It’s an afternoon of dance and culture as ATMA Ensemble takes the stage at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Sunday, March 24, 3:00 PM. Tickets start at $38. A VIP luncheon package, available for $150, includes a vegetarian/vegan Indian lunch with wine from Appu’s Turmeric Café and a lecture/demonstration on Indian music at noon.

ATMA, which started in 2020, strives to preserve its musical heritage through the performance of ragas — traditional South Indian music built around drones and improvisations that swell and evolve to match the mood. The group, whose name stands for “Alliance for Tradition in Musical Arts” and the Sanskrit word for “soul,” plays pieces that blend the range and style of Indian and Western instrumentation, merging traditional Carnatic music with the spirit and verve of Jazz.

The group includes violinist and Whitney High School alumnae Aishwarya; Mridangam percussionist and founder-director Guru Vinod Venkataraman; bassist-Jazz composer Sezin Ahmet Türkmenoğlu; drummer Ray Belli; and percussionists A.V. Krishnan and Surya Iyer.
